On 28th November 1998, a son was born to Shahwar Khan and Tabassum Khan, destined to walk a challenging path aiming to reach the stars. Abuzar Khan now stands tall as the new face of Meraki Music India.
How Did It Start?
As a kid, Abuzar’s father introduced him to ghazals and kawalis, which he innocently hummed along. From Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Ghulam Ali to Jagjit Singh, Abuzar’s ears were tuned to the legends who unknowingly became his gurus and inspiration. His life took a turn at 7 when his friends pushed him onto the stage at a school event. He expressed his musical talent by singing “Ya Ali” and “Kya MujhePyaar Hai” in front of a cheering crowd. His principal took notice of his melodious voice and offered him a chance to sing in the school choir.
Abuar recalls, “Juggling between academics and my passion for music was tough. But like they say, where there is a will, there is a way! With continued support from my family, friends, and teachers, I could sail through school while honing my musical scales. I participated and won many interschool, state-level, and national-level competitions performing in group and solo singing.”
But things didn’t always come on a silver platter for Abuzar. Hailing from the developing town of Bhopal, his opportunities were limited. So, his family took him to Mumbai and stood in snaked queues of Lil Champs and Indian Idol to ensure Abuzar seized every chance that came his way. He didn’t get through very far in the competitions, but Abuzar wasn’t one to feel dejected and give up. Instead, he worked on his skills harder than before.
Abuzar performed at college festivals and events across Bhopal. Soon, Abuzar Khan became a known name, and he went from singing to judging events.
How Abuzar Met Team Meraki?
Abuzar’s heart was always set on the city of dreams- Mumbai. When his band was selected among the Top 10 bands at IIT Mumbai, something stirred in him, and he decided to move.
“The struggle was real. I knew Mumbai wouldn’t be easy, but I was ready for a fight. I moved after graduation and looked for avenues to sing and earn. I performed at events and clubs and gained tremendous appreciation from the listeners. I was writing, composing, and singing almost from Grade 9, but had never played it in front of an audience.”
Abuzar’s friend made the team at Meraki Music India to listen to one of his original compositions. The team was thrilled to hear his melodious voice and immediately sought a meeting with him. Meraki Music signed Abuzar as an artist, and there has been no looking back.
“Ankhen Nam Nam Hai will release under the Meraki Music India banner soon. I am elated beyond words now that my big breakthrough is finally here. I owe a lot to my parents for their constant support. I am here today because of them and, of course, Meraki Music India.”
